(light upbeat music) (light upbeat music continues) - Children's Dance Theater brings Utah's landscapes to life in wild ideas, a vibrant fusion of dance and film created with Twig Media Lab.
Here to tell us more is Diana Timothy.
Welcome.
- Thanks for having me.
- So tell me about this concept.
You guys are mixing film and dance?
- Yes, so we traveled with 11 young dancers across the state to 10 different locations, and we filmed them playing and climbing and just exploring our spectacular wild spaces that we have in the state.
And those segments will be played during the show in combination with live choreography on stage.
- Oh, that's so interesting.
And this is something you guys have never done before.
How did this idea even come about?
- Well, the outdoors and nature have always been inspiring for us as dancers and choreographers.
And we thought that this would be a fun, fresh theme for us to try this year.
- Wow, that's incredible.
And this is including young dancers?
Older dancers as well, or just young dancers?
- So we filmed 11 dancers in these locations, but the performance includes 190 children, ages eight to 18.
- And what do you hope the audience takes away from this incredible event?
- We think that they will be inspired to explore outside.
You'll see dancers on mountaintops and in a meadow of wild flowers, playing in the snow, and just finding that sense of confidence and play and connection that are all benefits of spending time outside.
- You've probably already seen a lot of the videos.
What's been your favorite so far?
- Oh, you know, we went to Little Wild Horse Canyon, slot canyon, and it was so fun to see the dancers climbing and exploring and trying to film in a very tight space, was just a fun, new experience as an artist.
Yeah.
- I love that and I hope that our viewers also will love it as well and go to check it out to experience it.
If you would like to check out Wild Ideas with Tanner Dance and the Children's Dance Theater, it is happening March 20th and March 21st at the Capitol Theater.
