(upbeat music) - Utah Pride Center unites, empowers, and celebrates Utah's diverse LGBTQ+ community.
Director of Operations and Outreach Jackson Carter is here to tell us about the Center's, programs and upcoming events.
Hi, welcome back.
- Thank you so much.
So nice to be back in the studio with you.
- Yeah, it's great to have you.
I know you've got a lot going on coming up in the new year.
- Oh yeah.
The Pride Center is busy, busy, busy in the new year.
We've got all sorts of new stuff going on.
We have our free haircuts coming up again.
Our friends at Paul Mitchell, the school come and give free haircuts to people in the community.
That's particularly important for people like trans folks who may not have money to be able to get a gender-affirming haircut, who may be scared to go into a salon where they might be misgendered.
It's free and it's safe, so come on down to the Pride Center.
We're welcoming the return of our Queer Women's Support group, which is really exciting.
That'll be on the first and third Friday, or I'm sorry, every Friday, excuse me, that's a weekly one, every Friday, starting on the 31st.
- Okay, and I know you've also got your Sit and Stitch, where you can bring your own craft.
- Are you a crafter?
Do you do much knitting?
Sewing?
- I sew sometimes.
- Okay, perfect.
Well, any sort of craft, if it's knitting, if it's crocheting, I'm gonna bring my Legos because I don't know how to do any of the thread stuff.
But first and third Monday of each month, you can swing by six to eight at the center and just work on your craft surrounded by friends.
It's so much easier to get through, if you get stuck on a project, it's easier to get through it when you have some encouragement.
- Yeah, true, true.
I know.
And then you also get your game night.
- Yes.
- In February, coming up.
- February 5th, we usually do one once a month.
We do board games, video games.
We set up the Nintendo Switch.
Everyone loves "Mario Kart," so we do a lot of "Mario Kart."
Really, the Pride Center is just a place for people to get together and be around other people like them.
- [Mary] I know, and you've got that new building.
- Oh, the new building is so beautiful.
Ninth floor of the McIntyre building.
It's on the same side as the west side of City Creek.
It's just so nice and welcoming and you get a beautiful view of the whole city, so I want everyone to come down and see it if you haven't yet.
- All right.
Well, thank you so much for being here.
- Yeah, thanks for having us.
- And if you'd like to know more about the Pride Center's many upcoming events, it's easy.
