(light music) (light music continues) - So right now we're at Weathering Pit Ridge on Lake Powell, inside Glen Canyon National Recreation area.
So what we're looking at behind me is the Colorado River forming a huge, deep channel and weathering out large holes into this rock formation.
This is the Entrada sandstone, as well as the Navajo sandstone and what would happen is as this corner was being taken, large boulders would be caught in the cracks and those large boulders would weather out pits, so we're looking at deep, big holes that have formed over millions of years and we're lucky enough to be able to hike up here and see what's left of these weathering pits.
This is by far one of my favorite hikes out here.
It is nice to do this hike when it's not burning hot out in the middle of summer, but the spring and fall are amazing up here.
It's a short walk, maybe only 500 feet vertical to this beautiful ridge overlooking Padre Bay.
Padre Bay is, by far, one of our biggest bays out here, has this beautiful drop back behind us, Gunsight Butte in the distance.
Tower Butte, Boundary Butte.
There's so much to look at and the rock that we're standing on to me looks like a big, huge milkshake.
