(upbeat music) - The Utah Orchid Society is presenting the 2025 Blooming Extravaganza Orchid Show at Red Butte Garden in the Orangerie.
Our guest today, Shawn Quealy, is here to tell us more.
Hi, Shawn, welcome.
Thanks so much for being here.
So, tell me what people will see at this.
I know you've got a wide variety of types of orchids you'll be showing.
- You'll be seeing, oh, a fairly wide variety of tropical type orchids.
They're the easiest ones to keep.
Most of us grow in our homes under lights or in a window.
Some members have greenhouses, which makes it a lot easier.
- Sure, and I know there are, what, how many types you say you'll have?
- Oh, there'll probably be 40 different types.
And within those types, quite a few examples.
Again, most of them are all tropical types, which are the most exciting ones to grow and see.
- They're beautiful.
And what grows well here in Utah?
- Here in Utah, for most of us growing in our homes, we have these types, the moth orchid, or Phalaenopsis.
They do very well.
A lot of the tropical lady's slippers do very well.
So, basically what's comfortable for us is comfortable for them.
- For them, okay, okay.
And I know you've also got classes going on and people, even if they're not members of the society, can enter their orchids?
- They can.
Most of the plants will be entered by society members, and we're gonna be having classes, one each day, and at two o'clock in the afternoon.
- All right, well, wonderful, I can't wait to see them all, they do make the best gift.
So, thank you so much for being here.
- You're welcome, thank you.
