(upbeat music) - Utah Film Center connects people, stories, and ideas through film, artist support, media arts, and education.
And here to tell us about upcoming film screenings is Director of Film Exhibition, Russell Roots.
Russell, hi.
I'm particularly excited 'cause you've got two films coming up in March.
- Yes, yes.
We have two titles coming up for Women's History Month that are both excellent and fun, uplifting titles to watch.
- [Mary] I know, and the first one, tell us about "Who in the Hell Is Regina Jones?"
- Regina Jones is a woman who was a homemaker who ends up being this media mogul for a Black culture magazine called Soul Magazine.
And it really details her struggles being a business person and recognizing all that goes into that as well as being a homemaker.
And it's just a really wonderful story that covers all of the Black musical icons in the '60's and '70's as well.
- I love it.
Because she starts out like she's a regular person.
- Yeah.
- With a great personality.
- Yeah, yeah.
And then ends up becoming just the head of this magazine that's doing all these wonderful things and of course trying to strike that balance that a number of women know about these days.
- Oh yeah, oh yeah.
And speaking of what women know about, the next film, "Still Working 9 to 5."
- Yes.
The documentary about bringing the iconic film to the screen.
And Jane Fonda spent a ton of time researching the movement for women's equality and making sure, you know, that the struggle for equality in the workplace was represented accurately on screen.
So she does a ton of work to get this film made and tries to draw in Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton and to go behind the scenes on the iconic song, "9 to 5."
It's a great film.
- I know.
I was reading about this thinking, "Okay, wow.
"I didn't know they had to struggle "to get this to the screen."
- Oh yeah, yeah.
Jane Fonda lays it all out.
It's a really, really fascinating story.
- Ah, it's great.
And it's like, you've also got the director there for Q&A.
- Yeah, yeah.
It's a film that's directed by a woman named Camille and then two twin brothers, Gary and Larry, and they'll be at the Q&A with Zoom.
- Great, great.
Well, I'm so glad you're doing these, and thanks for being here.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about those two films coming up at the Utah Film Center, first is "Who in the Hell Is Regina Jones?"
March 5th, then "Still Working 9 to 5" March 12th, both at 7:00 p.m. at The City Library, go to utahfilmcenter.org.
