(upbeat music) - "The Body Politic" is a film presented to honor black history month and it's a collaboration with POV, the award winning independent non-fiction film series on PBS and the Utah Film Center.
Russell Roots from the Film Center is here to tell us more about the screening.
Hi, Russell, thanks for being here and thanks for partnering with PBS Utah, again.
- Absolutely.
- Yeah, so this is the first time you've done a POV film, though.
- It is, we're part of their community program and we're working with POV and PBS Utah to present this screening as part of our Black, Bold and Brilliant Program.
- Oh, that's great and tell us some more about the film.
- The film is a really great documentary that features Brandon Scott, a young and aspiring mayor of Baltimore who's trying to bring down violence in his city by using some non-traditional methods that are a little outside the norm, but still produce results.
- Yeah, and that's great and I know you said he's working with gang violence.
- Yeah, gang violence prevention.
- Yeah.
- Gun violence prevention, he's doing a lot of different things and it's a film that features Mayor Scott and then also a local activist named Erricka Bridgeford.
- Okay, and I love to see films about young advocates.
- Yes.
- And political leaders who are really working hard to make a difference and improve the situation.
And you've got a special thing happening.
- Yes.
- At the end of this.
- Yes, yes both Mayor Scott and Erricka Bridgeford are able to join us for a post film Q and A via Zoom.
- That's great, so the audience can ask them questions.
- Oh, yes.
- And hear more from them.
- Yes.
- About what they're doing and the film, yeah.
- Yeah.
- Which is great.
And it's at the Salt Lake Library, again?
- Yep, it's at the City Library downtown at 7PM on February fifth.
- All right, so I hope we get a great turnout and people can learn how they might be able to get involved themselves.
- Absolutely, and you can see what the next generation of youth leadership looks like.
- Exactly, well thank you so much for being here and for what you do, thanks.
- No problem.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming screening of POV's "The Body Politic" it's with Utah Film Center and PBS Utah, February fifth at seven o'clock at the City Library.
