(upbeat music) - USO, United Service Organization, has been the nation's leading nonprofit organization in serving men and women of the U.S. military and their families.
Tim Mullin is here with more information about volunteer and sponsorship opportunities at USO Intermountain.
Hi, Tim.
- Hi.
- Thanks for being here.
- Thanks for having me.
- I was telling you, I used to, I thought this was just Bob Hope's USO tour.
But you do a lot.
- It's a lot more.
So today's USO's a lot more than Bob Hope and the entertainment tours, even though it's a big part of what we do, entertaining our troops.
We do a lot more morale boosting and family strengthening programs these days.
- And you serve what?
10 million times you serve families?
And it's not just the U.S., you're around the world.
- Around the world, yeah.
- Yeah.
- Wherever there's a large presence of military service members, there's typically a USO center.
So we have more than 85 locations around the world, whether that's in Japan, Korea, Europe, Southeast Asia, Afghanistan.
And now even in Eastern Poland, we built two USO centers to support the troops.
- Wow.
And I know it started like after World War II, so- - Yeah, started to the buildup of World War II by FDR to help support the troops as they were preparing and coming back from the war.
- Yeah, and tell us about what happens for the Intermountain area.
I know there's a place at the airport.
- Yeah.
- Talk about that.
- Yeah, so about 18 months ago we created a USO lounge at Salt Lake City International Airport for traveling service members and their families.
And it's quickly grown to becoming one of the fastest, or one of the busiest USO centers in our entire network.
- Wow.
- Yeah.
- And you're looking for people to volunteer and offer support?
- Yeah, so outside of the airport, you know, we also do a handful of morale boosting and family strengthening programs for the National Guard and for service members at Hill Air Force Base.
So need volunteers to help support us.
I have one staff member on the ground here who's always busy, so we need volunteers at our airport center.
We need volunteers at our programs, and money, you know, to help support our programs.
So sponsors to sponsor our programs and events.
- Oh, yeah.
Well, you do a lot for families.
I think it's wonderful.
And thank you so much for being here.
Thank you.
- Thanks for having me.
