(bright upbeat music) - What if a night of celebration could help change someone's life?
Taylor Psalto with The Royal Court of the Golden Spike Empire is here right now to discuss Cancer Week, a series of community events supporting Utah residents who are dealing with cancer.
Thank you so much for being here.
- Yeah, thank you for having me.
- Tell me about why your organization kind of feels moved to support cancer and cancer patients and their families.
- Yeah.
So we, as an organization, have had a lot of folks that have been part of our membership that are either battling or have lost a battle to cancer.
And they're members of our family.
We want to support them and people that are involved with them and their journey, financially, if we can do that for them.
- And to combine the topic of cancer with a week of celebrations, kinda some people are like, "How does that mix?"
But you guys, you find kind of the right balance of that and offer so many different things that people can do.
Can you talk about what people can expect?
- Sure.
So this Cancer Week, I tried to get all sorts of different things, it's not just going to be a week of drag shows.
We have a Halloween drag show that will start off our week.
We moved to a darts tournament, we have a Hawaiian haystack dinner planned that's kind of just low key, come and have a meal.
We have a really big show at the very end of the week that we call our Monarch Show, where we celebrate all of the past presidents of our organization, and it's a really big event.
There's silent auction, there's lots of stuff that happens there.
I'm very excited for that event.
(chuckles) - And another part of it is the fundraising for this really, really great cause.
What do you hope that people will kind of take away when they come to your organization's event?
- I hope that they can see a group of people that truly just love each other and love what we do while maybe raising a little bit of money on the side.
- Yeah.
And creating community and supporting that community as well.
- Absolutely.
- Yeah.
- Well, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing this information.
