(soft music) - The Utah Asian Festival connects new Americans, immigrants, and refugees to other ethnic groups in the state and brings Utah's diverse ethnic communities all together.
Our guests today, Emilio Manuel Camu and Deepika Shah KC are here with more information about this year's celebration and I'm so excited to talk to you guys.
Thank you for being here.
- Thank you so much for having us.
- So tell me, what can we expect at this year's event?
- Yeah, so this year is the 47th annual Utah Asian Festival hosted by the Asian Association of Utah.
This year you can expect more than 30 different food vendors, more than 70 different booths in our indoor marketplace and more than 12 hours of cultural and modern performances by our Asian communities.
- Wow, it sounds like a fun-filled day that everyone in the family can enjoy, right?
- That is correct.
We also have a lot of children activities.
So children can come and they can do like various cultural activities and really spend like, you know, time with their family and friends.
So there's something to do from like adults to young kids, everyone.
- And I've gone to the festival year after year and I'm always amazed at the different options that are there for entertainment.
You guys are gonna have entertainment for everyone, right?
- Yes, we are.
From martial arts to traditional dance.
We even have K-pop hour and Bollywood hour that have grown over the years just to showcase a different diversity within our Asian communities.
And so, you know, we even have people come up on stage some of our volunteer performing groups try to get everyone to be engaged.
- Yeah, I hear that you guys listen to feedback and kind of tweak what's happening at the festival every year.
- Yeah, and we are also gonna have indoor state, but also outdoor state.
So again, like simultaneously performance will be happening for 12 hours, indoor and outdoor.
- Wow, that is incredible.
So I think that it's an opportunity for people to come out, to celebrate, to have fun, meet new people, learn new things, right?
- Yes, and it's definitely a reunion for all of us on the committee.
You know, when we, my friends and I joined a few years ago for the 45th anniversary, it was really an honor and a privilege to work with the elders in our community who've kept it going for 40 years.
And so we're just happy to be here.
- Yeah, I think our committee members ranges from like 18 years to like, you know, 60, 70 years old.
- That is fantastic.
