(upbeat music) - The Salt Lake Speaks Slam Poetry Exhibition is a free night of slam poetry presented by Salt Lake County Arts and Culture.
Our guest today, Lisa Zamora, is here with all the details.
Hi Lisa, thank you so much for being here.
I know this is the fifth year you've been doing this.
- It is, what a milestone, five years of bringing this free event to our community.
- I know, and I think it's wonderful because you highlight, I think 10 poets, and where are they from?
- We do 10 poets from across the Wasatch Front, and these are accomplished poets who have received national and international awards.
We even have an accomplished high schooler that's a part of our ranks this time.
- Oh, that's great, I bet that high school student is excited for this.
And then they perform how many of their works?
- They perform three to five works throughout the evening, - And I know they've got a great locale, I think, thanks to you.
Tell us about the locale.
- We are in the Grand Lobby at the Eccles Theater, but we open up the big nana doors and they spill out onto the front steps and the main street sidewalk, and you can hear for about that whole block this wonderful, engaging poetry.
- Which is really such an opportunity for them, you know?
And I know that the concessions will be available during the event.
- Definitely, they'll have beer cells too.
So that's the only component though that has a cost to it.
The rest is free and we encourage everyone to come and enjoy with us.
- Ah, it's so great you do this and that you highlight poetry because I think people need poetry right now.
They need something for the soul.
- You're so correct.
We need that expression, that moment where people can share of themselves and really it you come together and share as a group as well.
- Yeah, I think it's nice too because it gives the public a great way to interact with and get to know these writers.
- It does, it does.
In a very unique location, a beautiful setting.
You get to connect with people that have come up the street, those who have planned ahead of time.
- Wonderful, well thank you so much for doing it.
Thanks for being here.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about that poetry exhibition that is part of Salt Lake County Arts and Culture, it's the big poetry Slam, June 6th at seven o'clock in the grand lobby of the Eccles Theater.
