(upbeat music) - Salt Lake Acting Company is presenting "Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus: The Musical".
Youth theater artistic director at the University of Utah, Penny Caywood is here to tell us all about the production.
Penny, hi.
- Hi.
- This looks really fun.
- It is super fun.
It is a musical that was also written by Mo Willems who wrote the books.
So, you know, it's like exactly what he wanted the story to be.
And it's about this pigeon that thinks that they are never allowed to do anything and then comes across a bus driver and a bus and decides, ooh, maybe I can drive the bus.
But it's his search on what it is that he can do.
What are the things that this little pigeon can do?
- And I'm one of them he thinks is to drive the bus.
So, this is obviously the children's show at Salt Lake Acting Company, which always great for the kids.
- It's so fun and it's a magical time at Salt Lake Acting Company with the whole month of December is just open for families to come experience a show with their kids.
They also bring in about 2000 school children to come see matinee shows for student matinees.
So it is just the best time at Salt Lake Acting Company.
- Ah, wonderful.
What would you say the age groups are that love the pigeon?
- So I would say, you know, around first, kindergarten, through second grade, but really it's one of those shows that's good for like ages two to 92 because there's something for everyone.
There are really big musical numbers.
And the other thing that's special about this production is that there will be puppets.
- Oh, you have puppets too and lots of feathers.
- And lots of feathers, sure, but puppets.
- All right, and it's also very funny, right?
- Oh, it's joyful.
It's very creative.
It's meant to like spark your imagination and kind of fill in between the pages of the book, the things that you might not have thought about.
- Oh yeah, it sounds like a lot of fun and the kid shows always are.
So as the director, I thank you.
- Oh, thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming production at Salt Lake Acting Company, "Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus: The Musical", it runs December 6th through 30th.
