(upbeat music) - "The Big Quiet" is about two missionaries who confront faith, friendship, and inner conflict within the confines of a shared apartment.
Pygmalion Theatre's Fran Pruyn is here with all the details.
Hi Fran, welcome.
- Mary.
- Oh, another great show, women oriented that you're doing.
- Absolutely, this is about Sister missionaries in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints.
Usually we've seen a lot of artistic endeavors, writings, plays through the male lens, through Elders, but this is about Sister missionaries, and it's written by a woman who was a Sister missionary.
It's directed by a former Sister missionary, and of course, the team is filled with people who've had this life experience.
- Oh, wow, so a new story we get to hear that we don't really get to hear.
- World premier, first time out, Morag Shepherd wrote it and she's a really gifted local playwright and she considers it her best work.
- Really?
- Yes.
- This is her favorite of all 'cause she's done a lot.
- She's done a lot.
She's a gifted playwright.
- And so tell me about the two women.
- Okay, one is Sister Garcia and Sister Roberts.
And Sister Garcia comes to her mission, hoping to reconfirm her faith, and is very, very confused about it but she's really a great missionary, whereas the other woman, Sister Roberts, the other young woman, is very, very invested in her faith, but is a terrible missionary.
(both laughing) She just can't get people to listen to her.
And it's a little bit about how they interact about their crises.
It's a little bit about some of the food issues that Sister missionaries are having.
- Well, it sounds great, and thank you so much for being here, thank you.
- Mary, thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming play, "Big Quiet" at Pygmalion Theater, February 21st through March 8th at the Rose Wagner, go to pygmalionproductions.org, pygmalionproductions.org.
