(cheerful music) - Project Little Lambs is launching a new diaper bank and community resource center designed to meet essential needs and support families across Utah.
With us now is Ted Chalfant, executive director and co-founder of Little Lambs Foundation.
Welcome, Ted.
- Hey, well thank you, Liz, for having me on today.
- I hear that the need has just kind of exploded in your area.
- Yeah, so across Utah, we are seeing just the numbers are staggering with families that are suffering.
The National Diaper Bank Network did a survey about a year and a half ago, and they found that 47% of families that have children in diapers are suffering with diaper need, and that's just as true here in Utah as well.
- Oh, wow.
And so you've been trying to meet the need, and I hear that there have been a few issues with capacity.
- Yeah, so kind of roll back to when we started in 2014, we started in the basement of our home.
And as the need grew, we went in and moved to a new facility where we currently are.
But in 2014, we were serving 750 people a year, or children each year that were entering into foster care with comfort kits and basic essentials.
As the years grew in 2018, we started our Little Lambs Diaper Bank, and you know, at that time, we were serving 113 babies and 82 families.
Fast forward to 2026, we are currently, well, our year-end numbers came in at, we served 80,000, over 80,000 individuals from Southeast Idaho all the way down to St.
George.
And so our capacity has grown 9,200% of the families we're serving, but we're still in that 1,950 square foot capacity building.
And as our numbers are growing as well with 104 community partners that we serve from DCFS offices, health departments, we're, you know, it's growing.
- Wow, incredible.
And I'm happy to hear that it's growing to meet the needs of so many people who need assistance.
And if you'd like more information about Little Lambs, we have that information for you right here.
