(bright music) - Plan-B Theater's 36th season features world premieres from Utah playwrights.
Here to highlight some of the many ways that you and your family can catch a show is Jerry Rapier.
Thank you so much for being here, Jerry.
- Oh, thank you for having me.
- So tell me about this upcoming season.
- Well, like you said, it's our 36th, and I was realizing on the way here that it's our 25th season at the Rose Wagner, which is kind of significant as well.
We're starting the season with the 20th anniversary revival of a play called "Facing East" by Carolyn Pearson.
We took that show off Broadway 20 years ago, and it felt like a great time to bring it home to celebrate the anniversary.
It's about an LDS couple, seemingly perfect, who are forced to grapple with the suicide of their gay son.
And then we follow that with a semi-regular event that we host almost every season called "Radio Hour."
And this is the 18th episode.
It's called "The Land of Oz."
It's adapted from L. Frank Baum by Debora Threedy and it's something we do very regularly, a co-production with KUER's Radio West.
So the theater audience is also the live studio audience because we also broadcast the performances live on Radio West.
- Oh wow.
- And for those who don't know, "The Land of Oz" is the second in the Oz series.
So it takes place after Dorothy has left Oz.
- Yeah.
- And Scarecrow is king and chaos ensues.
- Oh, I love that.
That's incredible.
- And so people really enjoy seeing actors create all of these characters simply with their voices.
And one of the lovely elements of "Radio Hours," there's one particular actor, Jay Perry, who has been in all 18 episodes - [Liz] That is amazing.
- And this year Doug won't be acting in the show, but he will be hosting as he always does.
- And when I said that's amazing.
I mean, I love the tradition of those old radio plays being played out and that the audience can participate too.
That makes it even more fun.
- Yeah, yeah, people really enjoy watching, I think, almost watching what actors do in the breaks more than what they do when they're actually acting.
(chuckles) It's a whole different look at performance.
- Oh, well, if you would like to check this out or any of the other shows that are happening at Plan B Theater, you can check out what's going on with the 2026, 2027 season at planbtheatre.org for more information.
I'm Liz Adeola, and thank you for watching "Contact."
(bright music) Philanthropy, Arts, culture.
