(cheerful music) - Plan B Theater is presenting the world premiere of "Radio Hour, Episode 17.
Sherlock Holmes and the Final Problem", adapted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
And here to tell us more is playwright Matthew Ivan Bennett.
Hi Matthew.
Welcome back.
- Thank you.
- You've had a busy year, as we were just saying - An incredibly busy year.
- Yeah.
- Been going from one thing to another.
- From one to the other.
And now you're jumping into "The Radio Hour."
So tell me what's different about this one with Sir, with, you know, Sherlock?
- Well, one, for the first time in 12 years we're gonna be back in the Rose Wagner Theater.
So it's gonna be live.
- Ahhh - People can watch it live.
They can see Dave Evanoff doing live music.
They can see the actors with their scripts.
They can see sound effects being made - Oh - Yeah How we produce the whole show.
- Yeah.
I always love those because I love seeing how they do the sound effects.
It's a lot of fun.
- Yeah - Yeah, yeah.
I'm glad you're back in the rows.
Okay.
So kind of tell me what you're doing with this one.
I know you've got a character being a woman.
- Yes.
So Watson is a woman and why do we do that?
I think the most important reason is because representation matters and because we have a wonderful comedian, Isabella Reeder, (Matthew laughs) playing Watson.
But there are a few different reasons.
Like one, a couple of years ago, I found out about Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, who was the first British physician and surgeon in the 1860s.
And she was also Britain's first female mayor.
And so my brain kind of stored that away.
And then when I got an opportunity to do another Sherlock Holmes adaptation, the first one was in 2012, and I knew Isabella Reeder would be a part of it.
I was like, "Okay, Watson's a woman."
(Matthew laughs) - Alright.
Alright.
I love it.
Yeah, this is like your 12th episode.
You've been doing a great job.
And thanks for being here.
- Thank you.
