(lively music) - Pioneer Theatre Company is presenting the ultimate tribute to the late Stephen Sondheim in the musical review, "Putting It Together."
Actor Tyrick Wiltez Jones is here to tell us more about this incredible production.
Hi, Tyrick, welcome, welcome.
I was lucky enough to see this opening night and we were just blown away.
This is such a good, good production.
Tell us how it all works, because it's a review.
- Yes.
- But there's kind of a plot.
- Yeah, a little bit of a story, right, because Stephen Sondheim wants you to think.
- Yes, yes.
- But it journeys two couples, one more experienced, one more of a newbie couple, and their lives as they journey through love and dysfunction and all of the ups and downs.
And I get to observe it all as the observer and make comments, which is a lot of fun.
- Yes, those comments are very pithy.
(both laughing) So this is the absolutely great music of Stephen Sondheim from a variety of musicals.
What are some of the musicals that pulls from, tell folks?
- Pulls from musicals like "Company," "Sweeney Todd," "Into the Woods," "Merrily We Roll Along."
Some songs, you know that you are very familiar with and some songs you don't know because they were cut from those musicals.
So, that's also a lot of fun.
- Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- Because you're like, "This is a great song."
- Why'd they cut it?
- It didn't make it, you know, so, yeah.
- And it's such an incredible cast.
I mean, in addition to you, you're just great, but tell us about the other four.
- Well, you have Brent, Kaley, Judy, and Nicholas and they're all fantastic.
And what's so amazing about this review, not only their voices, but they're all actors.
- [Mary] Yes.
- [Tyrick] So we are giving you a play with songs.
- [Mary] Oh, yeah.
- [Tyrick] You know what I mean, which is very special.
- I know, and they are so good.
And I tell you, this is a real Sondheim-loving market.
I want them all to show up for this.
- Yes, I hope they come out because I mean, we are really telling stories.
And it's a lot of fun to do on stage every night.
- Oh, it's so much fun to watch.
Anyway, thank you so much for being here.
- Thank you for having me.
