(upbeat music) - Pioneer Theatre Company's production of the beloved musical, "Jersey Boys" is having its much anticipated Pioneer debut from September 13th to 28th.
And director of marketing and communications, Josh Black, is here to tell us more about the performance.
Joshua, welcome.
Hi.
- Hi, Mary.
(laughs) Thank you.
- So the theater finally got rights to do this.
- Finally.
This show debuted, I think, 20 years ago this fall.
It had its first out of town tryout before it went to Broadway, and then, of course, played Broadway forever.
It may have toured Salt Lake a few times.
And every year after year we tried to get the rights, and finally we were granted the rights this year.
So it's exciting, our patrons have been asking for it year over year, and finally it's here.
- And it's here.
They get to see it on our stage.
So it's about obviously, Rudy Valli and The Four Seasons.
So tell us a little more about the show.
- Yeah, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons- - Frankie?
- Frankie, Rudy, Frankie, that's, you know.
Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.
Actually not a lot was known about them before this musical, which is crazy because we all know their songs.
Some of the best pop music of all time.
Yeah, "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Walk Like a Man," "Sherry," et cetera.
It goes on and on, "Oh, What a Night."
And the show is structured in four sections, four seasons, and each one of the band members takes a turn being the narrator and giving their spin on the narrative action.
And it's very cinematic, it's just hit after hit, and there are so many scenes in this show, it's just it hits you like a freight train, and it's so much fun.
- So it just keeps moving and moving.
And I know Karen's doing the choreography.
- Yes, Karen Azenberg, a director and choreographer.
So, yeah, she's, you know, she's good at wearing many, many hats.
- Yeah.
So it's gonna be great and people can see it right here.
- Hopefully they will, yes.
Right here at Pioneer Theatre Company, yep.
- That's right.
And are you bringing in some old talents that we know?
- Of course, yeah.
There's some familiar faces and then there's some new faces.
The actor who plays Frankie Valli, this is his third time playing Frankie, his first time at Pioneer Theatre Company, and his fourth production of "Jersey Boys" overall.
Heard him this morning at 10:00 AM and he can falsetto until the cows come home.
- Great.
Okay, well, thank you for being here, Joshua.
Thanks.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about Pioneer Theatre Company's upcoming production of "Jersey Boys," it's long awaited, it's September 13th to 28th.
