(lively music) - Pioneer Theatre Company is presenting the story of one of America's most infamous duos: Bonnie and Clyde.
Artistic director Karen Azenberg is here with more details about the production.
Hi, Karen.
Thanks for being back.
- Thanks, Mary.
- Okay, "Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical."
- Yeah.
- Yeah,- I'm curious about the music.
- It's fabulous, well, it's Frank Wildhorn, so if you're a fan of his musicals, and we did one a few years ago, "Count of Monte Cristo," Frank, I think it's at his best.
It's got a little country flavor, but it's still that wonderful pop, contemporary musical theater stuff.
Big, booming, fabulous voices.
- Yeah, and this was on Broadway, what, 10 years ago?
Kind of became a cult hit.
- Yeah.
What is it about musicals about bad guys that we're so attracted to?
Romanticizing all of the terrible stuff.
But, I mean, they are part of American pop culture in that way, and they're just wonderful, bigger than life people.
- Yeah, and that's funny 'cause I was gonna ask you next, okay, what's the enduring appeal of these two?
Yeah.
- You know, I think even now, we were looking at this yesterday, they're people who had nothing and wanted something better for themselves.
Maybe they didn't go about it the right way.
(both laughing) - That's right.
And you're bringing in people who've been on stage before, as well as some locals.
- Yeah, we got some wonderful local talent, Mary Driggs and Daniel Simons, who are PTC favorites and Alanna Saunders, who was here in "Rocky Horror" and "Once on this island."
- Oh, wow.
So I think it's gonna be a lot of fun.
- It's gonna be great fun.
It's gonna be beautiful to look at and wonderful to see.
- And the costumes.
- Of course.
- We will like.
- Of course.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, well, thank you so much for being here, Karen.
I'm looking forward to this one.
Thanks.
- Thank you.
