(upbeat music) - People Pitch brings nonprofits, businesses, and community leaders together to share stories that illuminate real-world challenges and solutions.
Here to share why this is a vital resource is Alyssa DeHart.
Alyssa, welcome.
- Hello, thank you for having me here today.
- So tell me a little bit about this organization.
What is People Pitch?
- So People Pitch is the keynote event from Utah Advocacy Coalition.
- [Liz] And why is it needed here in Utah?
- Well, as a nonprofit leader, I've seen that we have so many wonderful organizations doing great work, and then as a parent of a child with differences and extra needs, I've found that it's actually really difficult to find the resources and help that we've needed.
So People Pitch is an event that brings all of the different sectors and Utah together in one place to share the people problems that we have, and also recognizing that people are the solutions to those problems.
So it's cross-sector event that involves community leaders, educators, legislators, families, businesses, both profit and nonprofit businesses, and in this beautiful mixture of people who care, people who want to help, and are really interested in elevating the whole of Utah.
- Are they paying to participate in this event?
How does the signup work?
- So actually, nonprofits are eligible as long as they're 501(c)(3).
They're eligible to apply to pitch.
They need to be working on people problems in Utah.
We've kept it really narrow for now, recognizing that as we each contribute, we can truly elevate the whole here in our state.
- I love that, and something special happens when you get all those people in one room and they're sharing their stories too, right?
- Yes, stories are powerful, and that's really what we need, is more of that story sharing.
A lot of times, advocacy is thought to be just lobbying or these things, but it's really sharing your story.
- Well, if you would like to learn more about People Pitch and how you can share your story or hear some incredible stories, it is happening in April on the 14th, and also May on the 21st.
They do this once a month, except for in July and August.
It is People Pitch at Kiln Salt Lake City, and to learn more, you can just head to utahadvocacy.org.
Thank you so much for joining us and watching "Contact."
I'm your host, Liz Adeola.
