(upbeat music) - PBS Utah is hosting a pre-screening of "Weather Hunters," PBS kids' newest show, exploring STEM-based themes that showcase the connection between weather, humans, and their environment.
Education Manager, Annie Frazier is here with all the details.
Hi Annie.
- Hello Mary.
- This is exciting for the kids.
It's part of that new cultural celebration series, shared stories they're doing that with PBS Utah.
Great idea.
- Once a month, so it'll be time for the kids to enjoy a little something for them.
- Yeah, and tell us about this series, "Weather Hunters."
- This is gonna be a fun show.
This was made with help from Al Roker and he is voicing the father in the show.
And it's about a family of kids that are really excited about weather and it gives us an opportunity to have some really good STEM content, and just to get families talking about science and different careers and different activities to do to know it better.
- Which is always great.
So it it's animated, am I?
Okay, great.
- Yes, it's an animated story and like I said, with Al Roker and even his character is a morning meteorologist host and he kind of brings that alive with his family as well and just makes weather the whole bunch.
- Oh, that's great.
And so you're showing it early on.
It doesn't air I think till September.
- Yes, it doesn't come out till September.
The screening is July 1st at six o'clock at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center.
- And I know you've got a lot of STEM type activities planned too.
- Yes, so we'll do some STEM activities afterwards, some light refreshments, and just a chance for families to be together.
- Ah, it's great, and you may be creating future meteorologists.
- Yes, we never know.
- That's what PBS is all about.
- Yes, I know.
- Getting kids interested in science and everything else, it's important.
- Yeah, learning about their world, most of the time for kids, it's just about what do I wear to school?
Am I gonna need an umbrella or am I gonna need a snow coat, and all of those things.
But now we can bring it to life a little bit more for 'em.
- Oh, wonderful.
Great activity and thanks so much for telling us about it.
- Thank you.
