(upbeat music) - PBS Utah's 2025 Writers and Illustrators Contest theme is Animal Tales and we'll be accepting entries through May 1st.
Education program coordinator, Melanie Pehrson-Noyce, is here to tell us more about it, how kids enter.
Hi Melanie, thanks for being here.
I know you and I were just saying this is one of our favorite things all year.
- Absolutely.
- Oh yeah, the kids' creativity is amazing.
I know you brought some winners from last year, some entries, which look at these, they're really cute.
- They are, yeah, there's a couple of my favorites by a 5-year-old about the humongous, ginormous most wolf, which is amazing.
And then the Nomadic Angel, which has been one of my favorite stories from the past few years, - Oh, it's great, so tell us how kids can submit their stories that they illustrate themselves.
- They have a couple options.
They can submit it online or via mail.
You can go to our website to get that physical application form.
And there's also the digital application form there as well.
- Okay, and the deadline to get those in?
- May 1st.
- So kids have gotta get these in by May 1st.
And I know that you have different categories according to age, so what are those categories?
- Yeah, so the children ages or I guess grades kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to participate and each grade will receive three winners.
First, second, and third.
We'll have winners in each of those grades.
And then there'll also be honorable mention in those as well.
- And then who comes in to judge these?
- So community members, a lot of community partners.
For instance, we have the Tracy Aviary, who is joining us as a community partner, offering a free ticket to anybody who even enters the contest.
We'll invite them and any of our Adventure Pass partners and sometimes station.
- Great, great, well, it's such a fun thing for kids and thank you so much for doing it.
Thanks for being here.
