(bright music) - Ogden City Recreation and Latinos United Promoting Education and Civic Engagement, or LUPEC, will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration that honors Mexican heritage.

Here to tell us more is Eulogio Alejandre.

Welcome to the show.

- Thank you for having me.

- Tell me about this year's celebration.

- Well, this celebration is probably gonna be one of the best we've had in years.

We're bringing a band that is just amazing.

Their name is Industria del Amor, and it's just a well-known band all over the world, and so we're happy to have them, and of course, we have all the local entertainments we always had.

- What do you feel makes this celebration unique here in Utah?

- Well, it is unique, because we are trying to build bridges with the dominant culture of Ogden.

We also invite the high school's drill team members to come and perform so the Latino community can get to see them, and then this year, we also have the high school mariachi bands performing at our event, so this is, we're working with the entire community.

It's not just the Latino community.

We are reaching out to the dominant culture to come and join us and celebrate with us.

- It sounds like you really want the community involved and want them to know that this is their celebration as well.

- That is correct.

That's why we're working with the city of Ogden to host the event, and we've done that last year and this year, and it's been going really well.

- I'm talking to you, I see a big smile.

You seem very, very excited.

What really pumps you up about this time of year?

- Well, it pumps me up, because it is an opportunity to share with the dominant culture all of the great things about the Hispanic Latino culture in Ogden and in Utah, so our music, our food, just our culture, everything is just wonderful to share with the dominant culture.

- How can you not get excited about that, right?

- That's right.

- Well, thank you so much for being here.
