Here to share more is Brandon Flint.
Welcome, Brandon.
- Hi, thanks for having me.
- So tell me about the summer program.
- Yeah, our summer is full of fun.
So we've got mountain biking programs, we've got hiking programs, we've got climbing programs, cycling, all kinds of fun stuff.
And we help people with disabilities to get out, experience these, you know, wonderful activities and the great outdoors here in Utah.
- And I hear it's all about removing barriers to turn I can't into I can.
- Absolutely, right?
And, you know, sometimes you might look at somebody who maybe is missing a limb or, you know, somebody who has a cognitive disability, and they might struggle to get outside.
They might face a very high cost of the equipment or they might just think they can't do it.
But at Ogden Valley Adaptive, we help remove those barriers.
We make sure that those people can get outside, that they can experience the joy of making it to the top of the mountain or the wind rushing through your face as you're cycling along one of our beautiful trails along the Wasatch Front.
- Because it's a little bit therapeutic and healing to be out with nature, isn't it?
- Absolutely, yeah.
What we know is that when people with disabilities come out and join us, they have a sense of community, they get that sense of accomplishment.
And it can really lift their spirits.
It gets 'em outside, gets 'em out of the house.
And, you know, not only is it that physical activity, but it's that mental side of things.
That really helps people thrive in our communities when we take 'em out and let 'em experience these activities.
- And I've heard some parents have even gotten emotional seeing their kids explore and play outdoors.
- Absolutely.
You know, it's pretty amazing to see the kids, to see the parents, to see the families.
Because a lot of these activities are things that people can do together, that you do as a family.
And so, you know, that mom who maybe had their child who thought, "They're never gonna be able to ride a bike," and then we get 'em out there and we get 'em on a bike and experiencing that thing that every kid should experience.
- It's amazing and wonderful that you do that.
Thank you so much for being here and sharing this with us.
