(cheerful music) - The Living Traditions Festival celebrates 40 years of cultural diversity with global cuisine, traditional crafts, workshops, and performances across four stages.
Here with more information on what we can expect this year are Emma Hall and Cirbie Sangroniz.
Welcome so much.
Thank you for being here.
Tell me what's new this year, Emma.
- This year we have 80 different cultures being presented.
We have 70 performing artists, 30 cultural artists, and then we also have 17 different cultural cuisines being presented this year.
We're super excited as well as partnering with the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival and Utah Museum in Arts - And Cirbie, you know some of the folks behind one of my favorite booths.
My stomach almost started growling when you were talking about the food.
Tell me about how this is, you know, a longstanding tradition for your organization.
- This is a longstanding tradition for not only ours but many others.
The Basque Club of Utah has been part of this tradition for 40 years now, plus some.
We came from when it was before the Living Traditions Festival and have been to all 40.
And like you said, our churros are the what makes us famous for it.
And everybody knows who the Basque people are with the churros, as you said.
So, it's an honor to be able to come back year after year for not only the food booth but also the Basque Club and the dance group as well.
And that's kind of the more side that I represent, is the dancing side of the Basque Club, so... - I get excited every year when I get to see it and enjoy those churros as well.
How do you guys keep the festival new and different every year, Emma?
- Yeah, I think that we really try to work with nonprofit organizations.
There's so many cultures here that we would love to represent, but choosing different nonprofit organizations and making sure that it feels diverse and we do highlight as many people as possible.
- Wow.
And you guys keep delighting crowds year after year, especially with the performances.
I can't wait to see what you guys put on this year.
I'm excited for this festival.
And if you would love some more information about how you can celebrate the 40th Annual Living Traditions Festival, it's May 15th through the 17th.
