Senior Minister Reverend J. Sylvan is here with more information about this special event.
Hello, Reverend.
Thank you for being here.
- Hi, thank you for having me.
- Okay, so tell us why you decided to do Harmony Fest.
- Sure, so before I was a minister, I have a background in event production and theater, writing and producing, sort of shows and events.
And one of the things about church and a religious community, I think is really important is the aspect of sort of being a community center and a place for life to happen and relationships.
And I thought in this time where it feels like a lot of people are feeling very out of control and very isolated and even very like mistrustful of their neighbors.
I wanted to put a positive event out there, very inclusive, very open to all, celebrating what brings us together.
So art and music.
- Which is wonderful.
And I know it's pretty much an all day event, right?
- It is, yeah, we're gonna start at, I believe, 10:00 AM and it's gonna go till eight.
We have music pretty much all day.
We're gonna have a brief yoga class.
I think we're gonna have a Tai Chi class for the outside.
We're gonna have coffee and taco trucks.
And I'm working on getting that beer permit, which if anybody's ever tried to do that, it is not easy in Utah, but we're working on it, so.
- And it's for families, I mean, everybody's welcome.
- Yeah, it's very family friendly.
We're gonna have a activity center where we can do family friendly crafts.
You know, there's an outdoor play area.
Everybody, everybody is welcome.
- So a true community event.
I thank you for doing it and thank you so much for being here.
- Of course.
- And if you'd like to know more about Harmony Fest coming up at the First Unitarian Church, it will be May 31st from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM just go to slcuu.org.
That's slcuu.org.
I'm Mary Dickson, thanks for watching "Contact".
