Board member Maddie Scott is here to tell us all about the upcoming Annual Multicultural Ethnic Dance Festival.
Hi Maddie.
- Hi.
- Before we get into the festival, let's talk about the organization more, because I think your mission is very important.
- Very, thank you.
So we are a local non-profit, and we bring people together from various backgrounds in the spirit of community.
And we do that in several ways.
We have a lot of arts and humanities programs, educational programs, and then we also do a lot of service.
- Okay, and I know it's all about really building bridges, because that's so incredibly important.
- Yes, I've made so many friends through this organization, friends from all over the world, really.
And people who've been local to Utah for their whole lives.
So it's wonderful.
- Yeah, I think people sometimes forget how diverse our community is, yeah.
So talk about the upcoming festival and what groups will be performing and just all about it.
- Okay, so this is our second year hosting the event, and we were really excited to take it over and we'll have dancers from various countries and people who live here who've just been attracted to those groups.
And so Japan will be represented, Ireland, Scotland, Nigeria, Turkey, so many places.
We'll have 15 dances in total.
- 15 dances total.
And it goes, how many hours does it go on June 7th?
- So it's from 4:00 to 9:00 PM and so you bring the whole family, it's family friendly.
You can come and, you know, bring snacks, bring your picnic items if you want to, and just hang out.
Or come in and come out.
Yeah.
- Sounds great, well, thank you for doing it and thank you for what the Institute does.
Thanks.
- Yeah, thank you.
