(light upbeat music) (light upbeat music continues) - PROArtes Mexico and loveDANCEmore are collaborating for the Corriente Alterna series, celebrating Chicanx, Mexicanx, and Latinx creators from Mexico and the US.
Stephanie Garcia is here to tell us more.
Hi, Stephanie.
This is a huge event to coordinate.
I mean, it's multiple days, so performance series, obviously, so tell me about some of the groups performing and where they're from.
- Yeah, we're excited to present artists that are coming from Mexico City, based in Mexico City.
And we are bringing an artist that it is based in Texas.
We want to do this because we want to celebrate these makers, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so.
We started on the 10th with local makers, but this week I am here to invite everyone to attend this events, starting with "Wilma," which is a theater.
A theater is a play, directed, performed, and written by Itzhel Razo, is a Mexican artist, and this play talks about Mayan culture and discrimination against Indigenous people.
This play has toured countries like Germany, Canada, Uruguay, previously the United States.
So we are excited to have her.
This piece will be at Sugar Space, 7:30 PM, and it is in Spanish with subtitles in English, and it will be on the 16th and the 17th of April.
We follow with performance art evening with artist Jose Villalobos from Texas and local artist Jorge Rojas, both are visual artists.
Yes, Jorge, beloved artist, both our visual artists and performance art practitioners, both will present a performance art piece and this will happen at the Sorenson Community Centers, 7:30 PM on the 18th.
And we close with "Primer Amor," which is the production of Mexican Dance Company A Poc A Poc under the direction of Jaime Camarena.
This is another artist based in Mexico City and yeah.
- And so much, you've got so much.
- Yeah, it's a lot, yes.
- Wonderful, well, thank you so much for pulling it all together and bringing it here.
Thank you.
- Yes, of course.
- And if you'd like to know more about those performances at varied locations, PROARtes Mexico and loveDANCEmore, April 16th through 21st, go to corrientealterna.com.mx.
