- When we, me and my family first moved to Granby.
We went to the Granby Open Farm Day and I just saw like several vaulting demonstrations and I just like fell in love with the horses.
I just, I just knew that like I had to be involved.
Yes, I've always wanted to just perform and like - Be the star of the show.
Our closest team is about two and a half to three hours away and when I first moved out to Connecticut, I'm like, I can't believe there's not vaulting on the east coast.
So I ended up, my husband was very nice and bought me my first horse and we started the team and it has boomed ever since then.
So we bought this place almost 10 years ago and we were looking for just a small barn to start up our vaulting team and we ended up with a 40 stall barn and 11 and a half acres.
And we have a nice indoor and outdoor arena that we get to vault in whenever we want.
Vaulting on a horse.
We actually do gymnastics and dance in harmony on horseback.
We like to start at the walk and then we begin trotting and we love to finish at the canter.
When the horses are trotting, it's nice and smooth and it's more like a jog.
And when they canter, they have one leg more in front of the other and that's what we prefer to vault at.
It's a much smoother gate than the trot.
So when we first start after the barrels and we warm up and stretch and everything, all the girls go down and they catch all the horses that we're gonna use that day and they brush them, they hug them.
Joe is especially fond of the scratches.
He always has scratchy spots on his neck, but everyone has a scratchy spot.
You just have to find it.
Joe's is just all over his whole body and the girls just love kissing their muzzles and just hugging them around their necks.
And I just think it's a really cool thing to watch when they first come in and they're a little timid, they don't know where to go exactly and then all of a sudden they open up to the horses and they're hugging 'em and it's just, I think it's a really cool experience for the horses and the kids.
I think it's really important for all of that to connect.
What I think about Rachel is she is an incredible vaulter.
I think she's gonna supersede me by miles and miles, which I'm really excited about.
- Well, when I was little I was doing gymnastics and horseback riding at the same time and my parents said that I needed to choose one and I was like, well, no, I'm gonna do gymnastics on a horse.
Before a competition We get the horse all pretty, bathe them, clip them if, if they need it.
We make sure their manes and tails are braided.
We put hoof oil on them.
You just want the horse to look as pretty as possible.
Oh man.
You make yourself as presentable as possible too, so we get all gussied up and it's super cute and there's a lot of hairspray and sticky buns at the end.
- Okay Brookypoo!
-I think when Rachel went and started working really, really hard, I saw a lot of the other kids do the same thing.
Brooklyn is 10 years old, so she's still learning a lot.
- It didn't take me very long actually.
As soon as like I got on my first day, I was like, oh, I really enjoy this.
My teammates helped me a lot because sometimes they'll like spot me and they'll give me tips and advice.
They help me a lot and I'm really grateful for them.
I really do it to spend time with the horses and my teammates because I really feel, I really feel like I've just like built a community here.
The horses, like they do so much for us.
They, they make sure that we don't like fall off and they're just really amazing.
And then it's a reward for us because we just get to feel like their warmth and their love.
