(upbeat music) - Caring Connections: A Hope and Comfort in Grief Program of the University of Utah's College of Nursing is holding its annual Seeds of Remembrance event this May.
Laura Bradbury is here to tell us more about this important opportunity.
Hi, Laura.
Thanks for being here.
- Hi.
It's good to be here.
- I know, it's just such a great service you provide, and this event every spring is one of the highlights of what you do.
- I mean, it's one of the highlights of my year, that's for sure.
- Yeah, and I know you always bring a guest speaker, and tell us about this year's guest.
- Yeah, so, well, so every year in the spring, we try to provide an event that, you know, might give people a little bit of a lift from the heaviness with their grief, while also reminding them that they're not alone in this.
And so this year's guest speaker, her name is Vickie Walker, and she is, I think, just an example of resilience in the aftermath of absolute tragedy.
Her husband was killed in the Trolley Square shootings in 2007.
She also had a son that was seriously injured and has since gone on to do really wonderful things with his own life.
But, but Vickie, in the aftermath of that tragedy, she started several nonprofits.
She's become a really fierce advocate for grief and loss support, for survivorship, for supporting others in the aftermath of violence.
So she's a wonderful, inspirational speaker.
We're really excited.
- Oh, yeah, she'll be good.
I think she started Circles of Comfort.
I mean, she's done a lot.
- She's done some really amazing things.
- And I know you always have a musical number too.
- Yeah, and this year, we're really excited about Esera Mose, and he's a local singer-songwriter who's just done some really, really amazing inspirational work with a lot of different communities, and also, I think a real example of resiliency himself.
So we're real excited about both the speaker and the music.
- Well, wonderful.
Sounds like a great event and an important one, and thank you so much for doing it, thank you.
- Yeah, happy to.
- And if you'd like to know more about Caring Connections' upcoming Seeds of Remembrance event, May 6th from 7:00 to 9:00 at the Annette Poulson Cumming College of Nursing, go to nursing.utah.edu/caring-connect.
I'm Mary Dickson.
