(upbeat music) - Camp Hobe is hosting the 25th Annual Catch a Cure for Cancer fishing fundraiser.
All the proceeds benefit children with cancer, their families, and allow Camp Hobe to continue to expand.
Medical Director Jamie Seale is here to tell us more.
Hi Jamie.
Thanks for being here.
- Thanks for having me.
- Okay, so let's talk first about the big fundraiser.
- Yeah, this fundraiser was started, it's actually our 25th anniversary this year.
It started 25 years ago by Carri and Jerry Schlief who decided they wanted to find a way to support children with cancer and created this fundraiser that's a Walleye and Bass tournament, one-day event, and one of our most successful fundraisers.
It's a great organization.
- [Mary] And where is it?
- It's up at Starvation Reservoir up by Duchesne, and it's up there at one o'clock on June 21st and goes through the day, that Saturday.
- All right, and I know people can register on Friday.
They should do that by that Friday before.
- Friday, yes.
- Okay, great.
And tell us more about Camp Hobe because the services you provide are very important.
- Yeah, Camp Hobe is an organization that, actually we had our 40th anniversary last year.
It is an organization that allows children with cancer and their siblings to come up and spend a week out in the wilderness of our beautiful state and get away from the hospital and all the hardships that come along with treating and beating cancer.
We have normal summer camp activities, so we really try to get away from the fact that they have to deal with cancer throughout the year and let them have a week of just being kids and having fun with a pool and arts and crafts and field games.
And all the things that children all across the country get to do every summer, we allow these children to come up and do because we have the medical support to be able to do so and they have a a great time.
- Oh, that's great.
And how many kids do you say attend each summer?
- We, I think, this year, have about 200 that we're gonna be having up there.
It's great.
We've had numbers kind of wax and wane over the years, but a steady growth overall and we serve a lot of campers.
- And it's a great service and I thank you for what you do and thank you for being here.
- Yeah, thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about Camp Hobe and the big Catch a Cure for Cancer fundraiser, it's fishing, Saturday, June 21st at one o'clock.
It starts at the Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation Reservoir.
But you need to register at Eventbrite the Friday before.
