(upbeat music) - Every year, Beehive Science & Technology Academy holds a school-wide event called the Utah STEM Expo, where the school showcases student work.
STEM coordinator, Kerrie Upenieks, is here to tell us all about it.
Hi, Kerrie, thanks for being here again.
- Thanks, Mary.
- Okay, so, tell me how many students you have showcasing their works this year.
- We have over 800 students from our school, and then we have other schools that are bringing science fair students as well.
So, 800+ students.
- 800+ students.
Okay, that is a lot to coordinate, I commend you.
Is it about your biggest one yet?
- This is the biggest one we've had.
We're super excited with the number of vendors, exhibitors we have coming.
So, it's an exciting day.
- Great.
Okay, tell me about some of the projects that you think are especially fascinating that you've got.
- We got some really fun ones this year.
So we have a one called Fire Bubbles, and they actually hold the fire in their hand.
And so, based on the soap that they put on their hand, the fire goes out fast enough that it doesn't burn them.
- Oh, wow.
It doesn't burn them.
(chuckles) Okay.
And then, some of the vendors you've got this year.
- So we have Thanksgiving Point, the aquarium, Clark's Planetarium, HawkWatch is coming, I hope they bring their eagle.
We have Sub Zero Ice Cream, so you get a sample of ice cream.
- What is Sub Zero Ice Cream?
- They make ice cream with liquid nitrogen.
- Okay.
- Yes.
- Okay.
And then I know you've got a lot of students doing robotics.
- Yes.
So we have our FLL team, which is the First Lego League.
We have one of their teams there doing battle bots and then showcasing their mission mat, as well as our First Tech Challenge team doing some other challenges.
- Okay.
And I know it's STEM, but you've also got some students doing some art projects.
- Absolutely.
You can't have it without having art.
So we do have some called, like, Bubble Prints, so they make bubbles with food coloring and they just show how it's the cohesive bubble and that's what makes the bubble stay.
- All right.
Well, thank you so much for being here and for bringing all those students together.
Thanks.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming Beehive Science & Technology Academy Utah STEM Expo, it's February 22nd from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Mountain American Expo Center.
