(uplifting music) Mary Dickson: Ballet West continues to grow and evolve with 38 company members, 14 second company members, a thriving academy, and more and more, and they are celebrating their 60th anniversary.
Adam Sklute here to tell us all about the upcoming season.
Hi Adam, welcome.
It's always great to have you.
Adam Sklute: Oh, it's always great to be back.
- We've got a wonderful season.
for our 60th anniversary, really exciting.
- Yes, I know.
Starting with "Dracula."
- Yeah, just in time for Halloween, we open with "Dracula," and right after that, we're doing a revival as a tribute to our founder Willem Christensen of his production of the "Firebird."
- Ah, love the "Firebird."
Beautiful, yeah.
- Right after that, of course his "Nutcracker," which is the first full "Nutcracker" in America.
And then we'll be doing my production of "Swan Lake," one of the best loved ballets in the world.
And then a program called "Love & War" featuring the fascinating work, "The Green Table."
- I love "The Green Table."
You know it's one of my favorites.
- Also on the bill, we have our family series, "Beauty and the Beast," one hour with a narration.
It's perfect for kids and families.
And finally closing up with the Choreographic Festival, this one called Asian Voices, where we celebrate Asian choreographers, artists, designers, musicians.
And that program is taking us back to the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, So it's a really a thrilling way this year of celebrating our 60th anniversary.
- No kidding.
You've got so much going on and touring again, going back to the Kennedy Center, how many times have you done the Kennedy Center?
- So this will be our fifth time back at the Kennedy Center since I've been artistic director.
So it's really wonderful that they have invited us back, and every time we've gone with a "Nutcracker," we have sold out that run there.
So they seem to like what Mr. C did.
(both laughing) - That is exciting.
And I know you're kind of dedicating this 60th anniversary to him.
- Yeah, very much.
- Which is really nice.
- Very much, and it's really exciting, because we got some spectacular news.
We were just listed as one of the top 10 ballet companies in America.
- Fabulous.
- So great way to celebrate the 60th.
- Bravo, thank you for being here, thanks.
