(upbeat music) - What happens when a bilingual radio station steps off the airways for just a bit and onto the dance floor?
Edgar Zuniga and Carina Linares are here to tell us all about Avanza Live, Avanza 88.3's annual celebration of music and culture.
And I hear that this year it's going to be bigger than ever, right, Edgar?
- That's right.
It's our annual party, and we're really excited on October 15th.
We're taking over Drift Lounge in downtown Salt Lake.
We're going to have five local DJs this year, two local performances, and really it's a celebration of community and of our local artists and musicians.
- I love the live performances.
I loved the dancing last year, but it's more than a party, right, Carina?
- Yeah, absolutely.
And I mean, we're really trying to take what we're doing on the radio and have a physical space where we can connect with our listeners, where folks can connect with local artists and dance and just have a place where they have community.
- And some people might be like, "Do I have to be bilingual to be able to go?"
But it's open for everyone, right?
- It's open for everyone regardless of what language you speak, what your background is.
If you love music, if you love connecting with others, this event is for you.
There'll be music in both English and Spanish, and it's really going to be just a great time to talk, meet new people and dance and have a great time.
It's going to go all night long from 7:00 until midnight.
So how many hours you want to be there, you're welcome.
- [Liz] Like you said, bigger and better than ever.
And I loved how it brought people from all kinds of different walks of life together.
And they were dancing like nobody was watching.
It was so much fun.
How do you guys kind of infuse that sense of security in people to just be themselves and bring their full selves to this event?
- [Carina] Yeah, well, I think having representation, right, and the music that you grew up listening to maybe mixed with some new music that you listen to currently is super important.
And we really just want to be a place where folks can kind of let loose and have fun and find their community.
And we definitely are having an emphasis on dancing this year.
So it'll be a lot of fun.
- And I love the little touches that you've added as well, like the photo booth that kind of people saw, the rotating photo thing- - Yes!
- That people can dance on.
And there's also like mugs and some Avanza swag people can pick up too.
- Yes, there'll be new Avanza swag.
We're going to have beanies and pins, plus the swag we've had before.
There'll be a photo booth again.
So it'll be a lot of fun, and we can't wait to see you there.
- All right, I'll be there dressed to impress.
Well, thank you so much for stopping by.
If you would like to check out Avanza Live, it's happening October 15th from 7:00 PM all the way until midnight at Drift Lounge.
