(upbeat music) - Avanza 88.3 FM is a public radio station in Salt Lake City airing Spanish language radio programming.
And here to tell us all about it is Program Director Edgar Zuniga and Engagement Producer Carina Linares.
Hi, both.
Thank you for being here.
- Thank you for having us.
- Very exciting to have this station.
So, Edgar, tell us about this station.
Tell us about Avanza and the programming you air.
- Well, we're very excited about Avanza 88.3.
So we are Utah's first public bilingual radio station here in the state and it was actually launched by PBS Utah and KUER.
And so we're here to support and grow community for the diverse and growing Latino communities here in Utah.
We do that primarily through music programming.
We have a really fun show weekday mornings from 9:00 to 1:00 called "Cafecito," little cup of coffee, with an eclectic mix of Latin indie, jazz and folk.
We also have public affairs programming.
We have a segment called Latino Legacy that highlights the contributions of Hispanic and Latinos to our state, but also to the country and the world.
And so we're really excited and feel that there's a need for programming like this and a station like this.
- Oh, definitely there's a need.
And where can people listen?
- So you can listen to us in Salt Lake on 88.3 FM.
You can also go to kuer.org, select All Streams, and we're the fourth stream there, it says Avanza.
So you have two ways to listen to us.
- Wonderful.
Okay, and, Carina, you are responsible for all the online portion of this.
So tell me what you're doing.
- Yeah, so we currently have Instagram and Facebook.
Our username for both of those is just avanzautah.
And we also have a monthly newsletter that we send out.
So you can find the link for that in the bio of both of those social media platforms.
- [Mary] Alright.
- And we've also done some really, really fun events that we've given tickets away for.
So we had one for Selena y Los Dinos at Sundance Film Festival, and we were able to give away tickets for the Sacred Souls.
We are also looking for some new DJs to have on-air, so ones that can bring that kind of vibrance and culture of our community on-air.
So if anybody knows of any DJs or has any friends that might be a good fit for that, you can send us a email at info@avanzautah.
- Wonderful.
Well, thank you both for being here, and thank you for bringing this to our community.
- Thank you, gracias.
- Thank you so much.
- And if you'd like to know more about Avanza FM 88.3 or to find out about social media, go to @avanzautah.
