(upbeat music) - UtahPresents brings an electrifying night of music with Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martinez, two Grammy nominated artists who blend Cuban roots and jazz.
Dennis Busch is here to share what makes this concert unforgettable.
Dennis, hi.
Thanks for being here, but thank you for bringing Cuban music.
- Well, you're welcome.
We are excited about this concert.
It's gonna be really fun.
- [Mary] Oh yeah, I mean, that music is so lively and so, it just puts you in a good mood.
- It does, it's kind of the antithesis of the season right now.
- [Mary] Yes.
- It's warm and bright and exciting and you know, it's a breath of fresh air with this gloomy kind of weather we've got.
- Yeah, the inversion is back.
- Yeah, yes.
- But let's talk a little more about the two of them.
What a duo.
- Yeah, they are both from Cuba and Alfredo, they kind of have this dichotomy.
Alfredo is a classical pianist by training who was mentored and discovered by Quincy Jones.
And then Pedrito kind of honed his experience on the streets of Havana and has this Afro-Cuban folkloric influence in his music.
And they come together to make great sounds.
- Oh my gosh, and in Kingsbury, they'll sound great.
- Oh yeah, absolutely.
- Yeah.
- It's a nice complement to our jazz series there.
- Yeah, I know.
You bring some really amazing performances in.
- Yeah, it's really exciting to have this new jazz at Kingsbury Hall series and get to bring in these really top tier jazz artists.
- Oh, yeah.
Oh yeah.
So speaking of, who else are you bringing in?
- We have Emmet Cohen coming later this year with a tribute to Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
And then we have Samara Joy coming in April, who is a multi Grammy winning artist.
So we've got some great people left on the season.
- Oh, I'm so glad you're doing it.
And thank you so much, and thanks for being here.
- Yeah, thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about UtahPresents and the concert coming up with Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedro Martinez, some Cuban musicians, February 6th, at 7:30 in Kingsbury Hall.
