(bright upbeat music) - Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports is hosting two March events that celebrate adaptive athletes, the Paralympic spirit, and inclusive outdoor recreation.
To share more about how the events support, access, and opportunity, we're joined by Brandon Flint.
Welcome, Brandon.
- Thank you, thank you for having me.
- Tell me a little bit more about this organization and why it's needed here in Utah.
- Absolutely, so Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports, we're an organization that helps people with any kind of disability, whether it be physical, mental, cognitive.
We help those people get outside and experience all the wonderful opportunities we have in Utah for outdoor recreation, whether that's skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, cycling, kayaking, climbing.
We help those people really get out and enjoy life.
- I hear that getting outdoors, it's almost like a kind of therapy, right?
- Absolutely, yeah.
So what we know is a lot of times if you have disabilities, it's hard to get outside, and at Ogden Valley, we remove those barriers, right?
So we have some very talented instructors, very talented volunteers, and very specialized equipment that helps you, you know, if you're missing a limb, to be able to go out and ski and snowboard and do those things that have long-term health benefits, right?
Being out with friends, being outside and breathing that fresh air.
It's just, you know, a wonderful experience for everybody and we want everybody to be able to do that.
- Makes a huge difference, as well as some of the fundraisers that you put on to be able to support these things.
- Absolutely, yeah.
So we have two really incredible opportunities to help support these athletes.
March 6th and 7th at Snowbasin, we've got our adaptive race, which falls on the same day as the Paralympics.
So we're gonna be watching the Paralympic athletes in Italy, along with our own athletes as they race for fun, and then we've got a great day to come out to Snowbasin and experience that world class resort, where they're gonna be having the Winter Olympics in 2034, demo some really amazing equipment and help support these athletes, and help us to be able to bust down those barriers and get people outside because it costs a lot.
That equipment, that specialized equipment, those instructors, costs a lot of money.
- All right, well, I'm grateful for organizations like yours doing this, and if you would like to support this organization, support what's happening, you can check out the event at ogdenvalleyadaptive.org, it's Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports Adapt2Thrive events on March 6th and 7th at Snowbasin.
I'm Liz Adeola, and thank you so much for watching Contact.
